Creativity - the awful "C" word.

I cannot count the number of times I have heard people -especially women- say "I wish I were creative" or "I don't have a creative bone in my body". Don't worry, I won't hold it against you if you say that, but neither will I believe you. Don't try to argue with me, I am likely to paint a card with your comments!

When creativity became a commodity, people began to devalue their unique perspective and handiwork. Yes, there are especially talented individuals that can do things that most of us never even imagine. But creativity is more than just what one produces, it is also what we think, believe and perceive. Creating is the stuff of life. In fact, it IS life. Each one of us is living a unique perspective on this planet and it is the fact that we ARE unique that indicates to me that we are all meant to create something.

For some it may be art, music, dance, architecture, math or scientific theory. For others it might be the way you teach your kids, do your job, sing in the car, dress, decorate, cook a special meal or how you make the people around you smile. These are all formsof creativity and they all matter. Don't get hung up on whether or not you can draw a stick figure. Release your creativity without judgment or criticism.
